What can I expect?
In Marie & Rosetta, witness how music can heal, rebel and illuminate.
It’s 1946 Mississippi, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe has already begun to overturn expectations—her electric guitar riffs and soulful gospel voice shocking church elders while igniting a spark that will change music forever. But she needs a partner, someone whose pure Sunday voice she can coax into the swing of something bolder. Enter Marie Knight, timid, devout and fiercely gifted. Together they embark on a journey across a segregated South, blending sanctified tradition and raw rhythm into something new, thrilling and unforgettable.
With Beverley Knight, one of Britain’s greatest voices, in the role of Rosetta, and Ntombizodwa Ndlovu making her West End debut as Marie, this production hits with emotional power, virtuoso musical performances and dramatic heart. Songs like Didn’t It Rain and Peace in the Valley crackle under the live band’s soaring energy. Monique Touko’s direction makes every note and moment count, drawing you into the tensions, the joy, the defiance and the fellowship of two women bound by faith and ambition.
Celebrate untold stories. Celebrate music’s roots. Celebrate the resilience, creativity and daring of those who refused boundaries. Marie & Rosetta is more than a show—it’s a shout, a celebration, a revival in song.
